Mouthpiece Options

Twisted Wire Snaffle

A twisted-wire mouthpiece can be good for older horses that need to get off the bit and improve response. It’s called a must-own by most professionals.

Features:
• Natural flexion and rate.
• Gets horse off the bit to alleviate leaning.
• Improves response.

DR Bristol

This is essentially a twisted-wire snaffle with a dogbone connection in the middle of the mouthpiece.

Features:
• Broken in three places, so it allows for pressure on the corners of the mouth and, to some extent, the bars.
• Applies tongue pressure and direct contact.
• Ideal for older horses.

Chain

Many horses like chain mouthpieces. In the right hands, they can be ideal for colts to achieve the correct bend, flexion and control.

Features:
• Helps establish bend and control.
• Broken mouthpiece allows many points of connection.
• Can be a good option for colts.

Chain Snaffle

Horses tend to feel comfortable in this mouthpiece. It solicits a response but without being too sharp, leading to an overreaction.

Features:
• Smooth snaffle-style mouthpiece lays comfortably on the horse’s bars.
• Short length of chain in the middle of the mouthpiece allows it to break in multiple places.
• Adds control in turns and corrects an overly bendy horse.

Hackamore

This shank is versatile and adaptable, making it a perfect choice to have in the tack room. Adjust the gag action by shortening or lengthening your headstall, and choose your shank length by changing where you connect your reins.

Features:
• Adjustable gag by adjusting headstall (0” to 3”).
• Adjustable shanks by adjusting rein connection (5½” to 6¾”).
• Excellent for collection and vertical flexion. The Goostree Hackamore is na extremely versatile piece of equipment. It is designed with a 8-3/4" shank and chain nosepiece covered in a supersoft polyurethane coating, makin it very flexible. Because it is so flexible, riders don't hit that "dead spot" commonly felt in other hacamores. It offers plenty of "woa" when needed and can be placed higher on a horses's nose or lower, depending on the horse's level of sensitivity.
